The Seventh Trumpet - Table of Contents for The End

Picture
Revelation 11:15 "The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven which said:  "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, And He will reign for ever and ever."  And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying: "We give thanks to You, Lord God Almighty, the One who is, and who was, Because you have taken Your great power and have begun to reign. The nations were angry; and your wrath has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding Your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence Your Name, both small and great – and for destroying those who destroy the earth."

Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within His temple was seen the ark of His covenant. And there came flashes of lightening, rumblings, peals of thunder, and earthquake, and a great hailstorm."

The 7th trumpet is the last Trumpet Call of God. There are a few things that I want to point out.

    • Notice the past tense when the twenty-four elders speak of the wrath of God, the judging of the dead, the rewarding of the saints, and the destruction of those who destroy the earth, which are those who worship the Beast.
    • Notice that they say that God Almighty has TAKEN His great power and has begun to reign.
    • Notice that they said that the kingdom (singular) of the world HAS BECOME the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ. This kingdom that is spoken of is the last beast, the Islamic Kingdom.
    • All of this is past tense, but all of this actually happens later in scripture.
    • In essence, the 7th Trumpet is the "Table of Contents" for the last part of John’s Revelation.

God leaves huge clues lying around Revelation to help you figure out what is an actual event and what is a synopsis of an up and coming event. An example is the 6th seal. If you back up a little, the 5th seal talks about the martyrs’ blood crying out for retribution from the Lamb. The 6th seal speaks of terror, a great earthquake, the sun turning black, the moon turning to blood, the stars falling, the sky splitting, and the Wrath of the Lamb. All of these things in the 6th Seal happen within the 7 Trumpets and the 7 Bowls. So, the 6th Seal is a SYNOPSIS of the coming 7 Trumpets and 7 Bowls. The 6th Seal is God’s answer to the cry for retribution from the martyrs’ blood.

So, basically, the 7th Trumpet is like an announcement of the 7 Bowls of Wrath and what follows after. You are given a simple overview of things to come before you are shown in detail. You are being told what you are going to be told. In Bible school, my homiletics teacher instructed us that when we preach, we are to tell everyone what we are going to tell them, then actually tell them, and then tell them what you just told them. It’s a great teaching tool. It helps with bringing people an understanding of what you are trying to convey.
