THE BEAST AND THE RULER
Before I go further, I need to explain something. Let us talk about the Beast for a moment. The Beast in Revelation 17 has seven heads.
Revelation 17:8-11 "The beast you saw (the Scarlet Beast) was once alive, but isn’t now. And yet he will soon come up out of the bottomless pit and go to eternal destruction. And the people who belong to this world, whose names are not written in the Book of Life before the world was made, will be amazed at the reappearance of this beast who had died (this is the same wording that is found in Revelation 13:3). This calls for a mind of understanding: The seven heads of the beast represent the seven hills where the woman rules. They also represent seven kings (kingdoms). Five kings (kingdoms) have already fallen, the sixth (Roman Empire) now reigns, and the seventh is yet to come, but his reign will be brief. (older translations say "he must remain for a little while") The Scarlet Beast that was, but is no longer, is the eighth king. He is like the other seven, and he, too, is headed for destruction."
Let us look at the seven kingdoms that make up the Physical Body of Satan or the Beast once again. There were five that had fallen before John’s time. They were Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Mede and Persia (which are considered one beast in Daniel 8) and Greece. There was the sixth, which was the Roman Empire. The seventh one was Islamic Imperialism. The eighth one is said to be like the seventh, but it is a resurrected kingdom from one of the first five.
There may be seven kingdoms listed here, but they are all considered to be One Beast with seven heads. We see that with each beast kingdom, the beast looks slightly different. Babylon is the Scarlet Beast with seven heads. The Roman Beast is a dragon with seven heads. The Islamic Beast has the mouth of a lion, the body of a leopard and the feet of a bear and has seven heads. They are all the physical body of Satan manifesting in different times. Just like the Church or the Kingdom of God is the Body of Christ, the Beast or the Seven Demonic Kingdoms are the Body of Satan.
With all of that said, we can establish a few things. Let us look at Daniel 9:26-27 again and dissect it. "After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One (Jesus Christ) will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a RULER will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. The RULER will make a treaty with the people for one set of seven, but after half this time, HE (THE RULER) will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all HIS (THE RULER) terrible deeds, HE (THE RULER) will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration (or the Abomination of Desolation), until the fate decreed for this DEFILER (THE RULER) is finally poured out on HIM (THE RULER)."
Who is this ruler? First of all, this ruler seams to transcend times and eras. The Ruler whose armies destroyed the city and the Temple was the Roman Empire led by Titus, a soon to be Roman Emperor, in 70 AD. The Ruler that put an end to sacrifices and offerings and set up the Abomination of Desolation was Islam in 688 AD. That is a 610 year difference. Who is this Ruler? This Ruler is the Beast with seven heads. It is the Body of Satan that has been around for thousands of years. The Beast, throughout time, has oppressed the people of God, whether they are Israel or the Church. The beginning of this prophesied week of Exile started out in 553 BC. The Jews were already in Exile, but the prophecied week of Exile began during the reign of Darius the Mede when Daniel received this prophecy.
What was unique about Darius the Mede and Cyrus the Persian? After Daniel was rescued from the Lion’s Den, Darius the Mede sent out this decree to the people of every race, nation and language throughout the world; "’I decree that everyone throughout my kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, and He will endure forever. His kingdom will never be destroyed, and His rule will never end. He rescues and saves His people; He performs miraculous signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.’ So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian."
When was this treaty or covenant enforced by the Ruler? We just read it. Darius and Cyrus were both kings of the Two Horned Beast of Mede and Persia. Daniel received the prophecy of the one set of seven, or the one week, during the reign of Darius the Mede. So, the Ruler, which is the Beast working through its third head, the kingdoms of Mede and Persia, made a treaty with the people that began in 553 BC. This treaty was apparently supposed to last a very long time.
However, we read "and a RULER will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple." The Ruler, which is the Beast working through its sixth head, the Roman Empire, came through Jerusalem in 70 AD killing every single Jew who didn’t flee, and completely destroyed the Temple, leaving no stone left unturned, as prophesied by Jesus Christ.
Right in the middle of this Week of Exile, "after half this time, HE (THE RULER) will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all HIS (THE RULER) terrible deeds, HE (THE RULER) will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration (or the Abomination of Desolation)." The Ruler, this time, is the Beast working through its seventh head, the Kingdom of Islam. The Islamic Imperialists came through Israel and then Jerusalem, causing destruction and desolation throughout the land. And, the most despicable thing that could possibly happen happened. They began construction of the Dome of the Rock in the Gentile Court in 688AD and al-Aqsa Mosque in 707 AD. When the Dome of the Rock, the Abomination that caused Desolation, was completed, there was a sign above the door post that read "GOD HAS NO SON." So, the Bible scholars were right, just not in the way they thought they were. The Beast in Revelation 13, which is the Islamic Kingdom, is the Antichrist. For 1,260 years, the Jews went from being exiles to being completely desolate, dispersed throughout the nations.
